Ukrainian agricultural companies receive licences for demining land for growing products. General Director of the Ukrainian Agrarian Confederation, Pavlo Koval, announced this on May 12 during a briefing at the Ukraine Media Center Odesa.
Such companies become centers for land clearing and demining and will train relevant specialists at their base.
Pavlo Koval noted that currently, due to military actions, large areas of agricultural land are mined. According to him, there are two types of mining: with maps (such territories are demined quickly) and spontaneously mined.
He said that during this spring sowing, there were already farmers and workers of agricultural holdings injured due to the detonation of tractors in the field on mines. In particular, such cases were recorded in the Kherson, Sumy, Mykolayiv and Kharkiv regions.
"But there is another problem in the northern regions. If we do not demine the lands of the Chernihiv, Sumy, Kyiv, and Kharkiv regions, in two years, a forest will grow on the land that was arable a year ago, because these are geographic regions of Polissia. After that, demining will be more difficult ", Pavlo Koval noted.
He also noted that these lands could be leased, and after the cessation of their cultivation, the state will have to create a mechanism for compensation to the rural population.
