Minister: Ukraine to sow over 23 million hectares in 2025

Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food Vitalii Koval held a staff meeting after returning from a working trip to Berlin and participation in the World Economic Forum in Davos. The meeting was attended by First Deputy Minister Taras Vysotskyi, Deputy Ministers Oksana Osmachko, Denys Bashlyk and Liudmyla Shemelynets, and State Secretary Oleksandr Biriukov.

In particular, they discussed the results of the trip and preparations for the 2025 sowing campaign.

According to Vitalii Koval, Ukraine has enough fertilisers and fuel for the 2025 sowing campaign. Also, the sown areas have not changed compared to last year.

“There are no major changes in crops this year. The area under soybeans decreased slightly and the area under corn increased. Sunflower and wheat crops will remain at the level of last year,” the Minister said.

According to the preliminary forecasts of the Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food, the total area under crops in 2025 will traditionally exceed 23 million hectares. Of these, 11,067,000 hectares will be planted with grain, accounting for 48.1% of the total sown area.

Of these, 5,825,500 hectares will be planted with grain, including:

  • corn – 4,145,500 hectares;
  • spring barley – 790,200 hectares;
  • spring wheat – 222,700 hectares;
  • peas – 216,500 hectares;
  • oats – 161,600 hectares;
  • buckwheat – 86,800 hectares;
  • millet – 85,500 hectares.

Winter crops were sown on the area of 5,241,500 hectares.

The total area under oilseeds is expected to reach 8,892,100 hectares, or 38.7% of the total planted area, including:

sunflower – 5,171,000 hectares;

soybeans – 2,422,600 hectares;

spring and winter rape – 1,167,200 hectares.
