Ukraine Ups Corn,Soy,Beet Planted Areas; Sunflower,Barley Down

Ukraine will increase the planted area for corn, soy and beet in this year's harvest, while the sunflower and barley planted area will be smaller, the agriculture ministry said Wednesday.

The ministry said corn planted areas were likely to increase by 350,000 hectares after falling 13% on year to 2.186 million hectares last year.

The soy planted area is likely to increase this year by 150,000-160,000 hectares from 641,000 hectares last year, when it increased by 15% on the year.

Beet planted area this year is likely to increase by 100,000 hectares from 328,000 hectares last year, when it was 14% smaller than a year earlier.

The sunflower planted area this year is likely to shrink 500,000 hectares from 4.2 million hectares last year, when it shrank 3.2% on the year.

Barley planted area is expected to be 500,000 hectares smaller than the 5.125 million hectares last year, when it increased by 22% on the year.
