Ukraine Harvests 48.5 Million Tons Grain To Dec 17

Ukraine harvested 48.5 million metric tons of grain to Dec. 17 on 15.47 million hectares, or 99.9% of the total area to be harvested, with the average yield of 3.13 tons a hectare, the Agriculture Ministry said Friday.

On the same date last year harvest was 55.17 million tons on 15.32 million hectares with the average yield of 3.6 tons a hectare.

The ministry said the wheat harvest had been completed and 21.7 million tons had been gathered from 6.7 million hectares, giving an average yield of 3.2 tons a hectare.

Rye harvest, also completed, was 1 million tons on 462,000 hectares with the average yield of 2.17 tons a hectare.

The barley harvest was reported at 12.7 million tons on 5 million hectares with the average yield of 2.53 tons a hectare. Rape harvest was 1.8 million tons on 1 million hectares with the average yield of 1.84 tons a hectare.

The ministry also said the corn harvest to date, which is still continuing, was 10.7 million tons on 2.1 million hectares, or 99% of the total area to be harvested, with the average yield of 5.11 tons a hectare.
