From the beginning of the current marketing year (MY, July 2009 – June 2010), and as of October 22, Ukraine exported 8.2 mln tonnes of grains, an increase of 2.5% compared to the same period of 2008/09 MY, according to the information of the Ministry of Agrarian Policy.
According to the Ministry, during the period, wheat exports totaled 4.5 mln tonnes as opposed to 4.13 mln tonnes during the same period of the previous year, barley – 2.93 mln tonnes as opposed to 3.43 mln tonnes, maize – nearly 0.64 mln tonnes and 0.44 mln tonnes respectively.
From the beginning of the current MY, Ukraine also exported 0.94 mln tonnes of rapeseed, down 33.8% compared to the same period of 2008/09 MY.
In September, Ukraine supplied 2.46 mln tonnes of grains on foreign markets, including 1.76 mln tonnes of wheat, 0.59 mln tonnes of barley and 0.06 mln tonnes of maize.
According to forecasts of the Ministry of Agrarian Policy, in the current year, grain harvest in the country will total nearly 42.9 mln tonnes in clean weight as opposed to 53.3 mln tonnes in the previous year.
In the current MY, grain exports is expected at the level of nearly 16.7 mln tonnes as opposed to 25.2 mln tonnes in the previous MY.
