The first meeting of the SME Resilience Alliance was held with the participation of the First Deputy Minister of Economy of Ukraine Oleksiy Sobolev and representatives of development institutions, international organizations and banks from different countries of the world. Ukraine together with 12 other countries, 17 development institutions and international financial organizations formed the Alliance within the framework of the Ukraine Recovery Conference (URC-2024), which took place in Berlin in June. The co-chairs of the Alliance Secretariat are the Ministry of Economy of Ukraine and the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development of Germany (BMZ).

"The Alliance is an important platform for joint actions aimed at strengthening the competitiveness and sustainability of Ukrainian SMEs. Through coordinated efforts and strategic partnerships, we hope to create an environment conducive to growth, innovation and job creation in all corners of Ukraine. In addition to expert support, over the next 4 years the total amount of aid to Ukrainian SMEs within the framework of the Alliance will amount to about 7 billion euros. In particular, the main contributions under the new obligations of 3.9 billion euros will be received within the framework of the Ukraine Facility program," Oleksiy Sobolev, First Deputy Minister of Economy of Ukraine said.

The participants were presented with a comprehensive Coordination Mechanism for achieving concrete results and supporting sustainable development during the event. In particular, the goals of the Coordination Mechanism include:

  • conformity to the priorities of the Government of Ukraine in supporting SMEs;
  • effective coordination among donors regarding private sector support;
  • establishing a dialogue between partners and the Government of Ukraine regarding regulatory reforms, economic policy and SME support tools;
  • monitoring and ensuring the implementation of the SME Recovery Strategy until 2027.

In the future, the Alliance plans to strengthen support for Ukraine in the field of recovery and development of the SME sector, using the best international practices and expertise to achieve sustainable economic development.

Oleksiy Sobolev emphasized that the Alliance aims to support Ukrainian business, which includes reforming Ukrainian SME policy through the implementation of the SME Recovery Strategy until 2027, the formation of strong and sustainable institutions that mobilize financing, provide insurance instruments and implement support programs. It is also about financial support for SMEs through Ukrainian banks.

The Alliance is open to new members from among international donor and financial organizations. To join the Alliance, please contact the Alliance Secretariat by sending an email to SME-alliance@giz.de.
