Recently, the European grain association COCERAL made a statement on the supply of grain of appropriate quality to the EU.
The Association was forced to make such a statement due to the spread of false rumors about the alleged importation of low-quality grain to the EU market.
According to UGA, in some neighbouring countries that banned the import of Ukrainian grain, rumours began to spread that allegedly low-quality grain was imported from Ukraine, in particular, contaminated with mycotoxins or even contaminated with radiation. For example, Hungary has announced that it is strengthening quality control over Ukrainian grain that will cross the border.
As the COCERAL Association noted, its members, which trade agricultural raw materials destined to the supply of the food and feed chains, as well as for technical and energy uses, are vigilant when receiving shipments whether the goods are originated from EU member countries or from import.
Commodities placed on the EU market must respect the high safety standards established in the EU legislation and COCERAL members are fully committed to ensure this compliance.
“All consignments from any origin are tested and our members reject any cargoes that could potentially have a negative impact on human and animal health. This strict process is part of the daily practice that COCERAL’s traders have in place under their risk assessment and risk management responsibilities,” COCERAL said in a statement.
The UGA considers it necessary to emphasize that when exporting grain, it undergoes a thorough inspection by both state bodies and surveying companies.
For reference:
COCERAL is a European trade association for cereals, oilseeds, pulses, olive oil, fats and animal feed, founded in 1958 after the signing of the Treaty of Rome, which led to the creation of the European Economic Community. It unites producers, traders, importers, exporters and operators of port terminals of the specified agricultural products of the countries of the European Union.
The Ukrainian Grain Association (UGA) is an association of producers, processors and the largest exporters of grain, which annually export about 90% of Ukrainian grain products.
The main purpose of UGA activity is to promote the formation and development of the national grain market in Ukraine, as well as the creation of the necessary organizational, economic, legal and social conditions in the interests of the development of business structures of the grain market in Ukraine.
The Ukrainian Grain Association is the only specialized association from the countries of Eastern Europe that is represented in COCERAL, while not being a representative of a member state of the European Union.
