Ukraine harvested 44 million metric tons of grain in the year to Oct. 29 on 14.8 million hectares, or 95% of the total area to be harvested, with an average yield of three tons a hectare, the Agriculture Ministry said Friday.
According to the data of APK-Inform Agency, in September 2009, the European Union remained one of the largest importers of oilseeds and by-products from Ukraine.
As of October 23 of the current year, Ukraine sowed winter grains throughout 7.6 mln ha (97% from the forecasted areas), which nearly corresponds to the previous year level, declared the Ministry of Agrarian Policy of Ukraine.
As of October 23, Ukraine harvested 43.3 mln tonnes of grains, a decrease of 12.3% compared to the same date of previous year, declared the Ministry of Agrarian Policy. According to information of the Ministry, agrarians harvested grains throughout 14.6 mln ha, or 96% from the forecast.
From the beginning of the current marketing year (MY, July 2009 – June 2010), and as of October 22, Ukraine exported 8.2 mln tonnes of grains, an increase of 2.5% compared to the same period of 2008/09 MY, according to the information of the Ministry of Agrarian Policy.
According to the data of operative statistics, in September 2009, Ukrainian enterprises produced 31.4 thsd tonnes of groats products as opposed to 23.4 thsd tonnes in August. Ukraine also increased the production volumes by 8% compared to September 2008.

Grain stocks in Ukraine on Oct. 1 totaled 23.4 million metric tons, 7% less than on the same date last year, the state statistics committee said Thursday. The grain stocks included 13 million tons of wheat, 6.2 million tons of barley, 1.1 million tons of corn and 900,000 tons of rye.
According to data of APK-Inform Agency, in 2008/09 MY, Ukraine supplied over 2 mln tonnes of sunflower oil on export markets, an increase of 700 thsd tonnes compared to the index of the previous season, which became the absolute record for the country.
