We expect duty-free trade with the EU to be extended until the end of 2024: Denys Shmyhal

Ukraine plans to make significant progress in its integration into the EU's internal market and to maintain duty-free trade with the European Union until the end of 2024.

These issues were among the topics of discussion during the meeting of Prime Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal and Minister of Finance Sergii Marchenko with Executive Vice-President of the European Commission Valdis Dombrovskis.

Denys Shmyhal thanked for the substantial macro-financial assistance of the European Union. In particular, for the EUR 18 billion support program, with EUR 3 billion already disbursed to Ukraine.

"It is crucial to ensure that financial resources are provided in a predictable and rhythmic manner. For this purpose, we have created a platform of "Financial Ramstein", the Head of Government emphasized.

The Prime Minister stressed that integration into the EU's Internal Market and further deepening of trade relations were vital to the capacity of Ukraine to counter russian aggression.

"In particular, it is important to maintain duty-free imports of our goods to the European Union by the end of 2024," Denys Shmyhal said.

The PM also called on the EU to contribute to Ukraine's rapid reconstruction.

"This year we need USD 17 billion for these needs. One of the key sources of funding is russian assets. We need to create a real mechanism to channel them to compensate for the damage caused by the war," the Prime Minister said.

For his part, Executive Vice-President of the European Commission Valdis Dombrovskis emphasized that the European Union would continue to fully support Ukraine.
