Ukraine planted spring grains on 6.35 million hectares, or 83% of the planned total area, to May 7, the agriculture ministry reported Tuesday.
On the year-earlier date, spring grains were planted on 6.55 million hectares, or 88% of the planned total area, the ministry said.
To date, spring wheat was planted on 301,000 hectares, slightly more than the planned total area. Spring barley was planted on 3.22 million hectares, or 96% of the planned total area. Spring oats were planted on 372,000 hectares, or 97% of the planned total area. Spring pulses were planted on 310,000 hectares, a bit higher than the planned total area.
Ukraine also planted corn on 1.97 million hectares, or 73% of the planned total planted area being planted to date.
Sugarbeet was planted to date on 476,000 hectares, or 109% of the planned total planted area, and sunflower was planted on 2.94 million hectares, or 79% of the total planned planted area. Soy was planted on 533,000 hectares, or 61% of the planned total area.
