Ukraine Plants Spring Grains On 4.39M Hectares To April 23

Ukraine planted spring grains on 4.39 million hectares, or 58% of the planned total area, in the year to April 23, the Agriculture Ministry reported Monday.

On the same date last year, Ukraine had planted spring grains on 5.04 million hectares, or 68% of the planned total area, the ministry said.

To date, spring wheat has been planted on 287,000 hectares, or 98% of the planned total area. Spring barley has been planted on 3.14 million hectares, or 94% of the planned total area. Spring oats have been planted on 340,000 hectares, or 88% of the planned total area, and spring pulses have been planted on 302,000 hectares, or 105% of the planned total area.

Ukraine has also begun planting spring corn, with 246,000 hectares, or 9% of the planned total area, planted to date.

The Agriculture Ministry also said beet has been planted on 387,000 hectares, or 89% of the planned total area, and sunflower has been planted on 716,000 hectares, or 19% of the total planned area. Soy has been planted on 68,000 hectares, or 8% of the planned total area.
