The Ukraine parliament, Verkhovna Rada, has this week passed Bill No. 3871 at first reading to amend various Ukraine laws in a move that will ban the use of palm oil for food production.
Some 233 MPs voted to back the bill, with just 226 votes needed as a minimum.
An explanatory note in the bill read, “The purpose of the bill is clarification, namely a direct ban on the use of palm oil in the production of food, milk and dairy products and the establishment of administrative liability for the offense committed.”
The bill also proposes the amendment of the Code of Administrative Offenses of Ukraine by implementing a fine on the company management and organizations that produce food with palm oil content and the sale of food that contains the ingredient.
This would be to the amount of 20 to 100 tax-free minimum incomes, while similar actions after a year of administrative measures incurring a fine of 100 to 200 tax-free minimum incomes.
