Ukraine and Senegal intensify the cooperation in agriculture

As a part of the visit of the Ukrainian delegation to Africa, the Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine Mr. Mykola Solskyi on January 9, 2023 had a meeting with the Minister of Agriculture, Rural Infrastructure and Food Sovereignty of the Republic of Senegal Mr. Aly Ngouille Ndiaye.

The parties discussed the prospects of relations between Ukraine and Senegal and the development of cooperation in the agricultural sector.

The Memorandum of Understanding in the field of agriculture between the Ministries of both countries was signed during the meeting.

The document stipulates the development of bilateral trade with agricultural products, the cooperation in the field of scientific research, investment, as well as the relations between public institutions and private organizations.

Mr. Mykola Solskyi noted that despite the war, the Ukrainian side makes all its efforts to continue food exports to African countries in the required volumes. According to his opinion, Ukraine is prepared to increase the export of agricultural products and is ready to consider the implementation possibilities of new logistics projects in Senegal.

In particular, the possibility to store Ukrainian grain in the so-called grain hubs is under consideration. This will contribute to the planning of sales, stabilization of food prices for African countries and will provide confidence regarding the required volumes and quality of grain.

The visit of the Ukrainian delegation with the Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine Mr. Mykola Solskyi at the head was organized in order to improve the cooperation with African countries in the field of agriculture.

 

Mr. Mykola Solskyi inspected the capacity of the port of Dakar

As a part of the visit of the Ukrainian delegation to Africa, the Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine Mr. Mykola Solskyi on January 9, 2023 visited the seaport of Dakar (the Republic of Senegal), through which 95% of food imports come to the country.

The CEO of the Autonomous Port of Dakar Mr. Mountaga Sy, the Head of the Industrial Chamber of Commerce of Dakar Mr. Abdoulaye Sow and the Minister of Fisheries and Maritime Economy in Senegal Mr. Papa Mbai familiarized the Ukrainian delegation with the infrastructure and spoke about the capacity of the seaport.

During the meeting Mr. Mykola Solskyi emphasized that Ukraine is ready to export not only agricultural products but also other goods to African countries. In order to do this, it is necessary to focus on the logistics development.

"The President of Ukraine and the Government of Ukraine are considering the development of trade relations with the countries of Western Africa, in particular, the creation of joint logistics projects. This will allow to manage business in accordance with proper forecasts, to stabilize prices and gain confidence in the quality of grain and its supplies", - said Mr. Mykola Solskyi.

The Ukrainian Minister expressed his gratitude to the Senegalese side for the opportunity to visit the port and get familiar with its capacities.

The representatives of Senegal confirmed their interest in cooperation and are ready to consider the implementation possibilities of joint logistics projects.

The visit of the delegation of the Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine to the Republic of Senegal (Africa) continues. After a series of official meetings, the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding in the sphere of agriculture between the Ministries of both countries, as well as the visit to the port of Dakar, a round table was held with the participation of Minister Mr. Mykola Solskyi, members of the Ukrainian delegation, key operators of the specialized sectors of Senegal, as well as representatives of local and international mass media.

The parties discussed the prospects of cooperation and opportunities for the development of cooperation in the field of agriculture for both countries.
