Ukraine: agriculture shows positive results

The government of Ukraine realized special anti-crisis measures for stabilization of the situation in the agro industrial complex of the country, which allowed to provide the positive rates of growth of the agricultural production in 2009, declared Bogdan Danilishyn, the Minister of Economics of Ukraine.

According to him, during the year, the agricultural industry showed the indices of growth at the level of 0.1%. The industry reached the index in the terms of high contrastive statistical base of 2008 (indices of the increase at the level of 17.1% in 2008).

Despite the crisis events in the economics, in 2009, the plant growing sector showed the growth of production volumes of main agricultural crops compared to the indices of the period before the crisis. The general grain production totaled 46 mln tonnes as opposed to the average results of 33.3 mln tonnes during the period of 2000-2007, sunflower production – 6.4 mln tonnes as opposed to 3.8 mln tonnes.

At the same time, according to preliminary data, in July-December of 2009/10 MY, Ukraine took the third place in the world at grains and leguminous plants exports (11.3 mln tonnes against 10.9 mln tonnes in July-November of 2008/09 MY). The traditional import countries are Egypt, Iran, Syria, Turkey, Bangladesh and etc., but the export geography also diversified towards the developed countries – Japan, South Korea, Spain, Israel and etc.
