Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food: Ship with 30,000 tonnes of Ukrainian wheat arrives in Yemen under Grain from Ukraine

As part of the Grain from Ukraine initiative of President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy, the ship Negmar Cicek delivered humanitarian cargo – 30,000 tons of wheat – to the Port of Salif in the Republic of Yemen.

In general, this is the sixth batch of grain within the Grain from Ukraine initiative, launched with the aim of overcoming the global food crisis, in particular in the countries that suffer the most from hunger.

The shipment of this batch of Ukrainian grain to Yemen was backed by the UN World Food Programme (WFP), as well as thanks to the financial assistance of the governments of the United States, France and Spain.

"Our Grain from Ukraine humanitarian program, which we implement together with partners, already helps millions of people in the countries most affected by hunger and confirms Ukraine's global role as a guarantor of world food security," President Volodymyr Zelenskyy emphasized.

According to the Head of State, even in the conditions of a full-scale Russian invasion, Ukraine helps the world guarantee stability and security, and really resists the chaos and food crisis that have become a consequence of Russian aggression.

In particular, 30 thousand tons of Ukrainian grain will help about 1.7 million residents of Yemen to feed their families for at least a month. Similar steps within the Grain from Ukraine humanitarian program were taken by Ukraine together with partners to support African countries, in particular Ethiopia, Somalia and Kenya.

Head of the Office of the President added: "By implementing the Grain from Ukraine presidential humanitarian program, Ukraine strives to fulfill its obligations to the world community regarding global food security. The world cannot remain without Ukrainian grain."

Representatives of Ukraine and the Republic of Yemen agreed on further joint efforts to ensure food security in the region. It was noted that the Ukrainian state will continue to support the Yemeni people despite the war and Russia's efforts to block the export of Ukrainian food.

The Grain from Ukraine humanitarian program launched by President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy is designed to ensure the transportation of agricultural products through Ukrainian ports and prevent hunger in the most vulnerable countries of the world.

Since the beginning of the implementation of the initiative, Ukraine has sent 170 thousand tons of wheat to countries with the most difficult food situation, including Ethiopia, Somalia, Yemen and Kenya.

More than 30 countries and international organizations, including the EU countries, the USA, Canada, Great Britain, Japan, Korea and Qatar, have joined the Grain from Ukraine program, raising more than $200 million in donations.

According to the Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine, so far, 541,700 tonnes have been delivered to poorer countries under humanitarian programmes, including 170,000 tonnes under the Grain from Ukraine programme and 371,100 tonnes under the WFP programme.

In total, 27.73 million tonnes of Ukrainian agricultural products have been shipped from Ukraine since the launch of the Grain Initiative. About 800,000 tonnes of produce, mainly wheat, went to low-income countries (Ethiopia, Somalia, Sudan, Yemen, etc.). Lower-middle-income countries (Bangladesh, Kenya, Lebanon, Vietnam, etc.) received 4.46 million tonnes of agricultural products, including 2.51 million tonnes of wheat and 1.16 million tonnes of corn.
