World wheat production is expected to fall in both the 2009-10 and 2010-11 harvest periods, the International Grains Council said Thursday.

World wheat production is expected to fall 1.7% in the 2009-10 harvest period ending June 30, 2010 and then fall another 3.1% in the 2010-11 harvest period.

World 2009-10 wheat production was revised up 6 million metric tons on the month to 674 million tons, said the report.

The forecast 2010-11 world wheat output of 653 million tons is 21 million less than the previous harvest but would still be the third largest on record.
