The Federal Agency for Technical Relief (THW), funded by the German Federal Foreign Office, will hand over more than 700 generators to support the Ukrainian energy system. From this quantity, at least 25 generators will be provided to food producers, in particular, for the production of bread, milk, livestock products, electricity supply to storage warehouses, etc.
"We express our sincere gratitude to the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) and to the Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine for their assistance with the distribution of generators for food producers. It is extremely important to support production and ensure food security of the population, particularly in the most affected regions", said Mr. Frank Müller the Agricultural Attaché of the Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany in Ukraine.
The first 10 generators, with a capacity of 450 kW, have already been delivered to the warehouse, from where they will be handed over to food producers located in the war-affected areas and areas with recently restored access.
"Terrorist attacks on energy facilities go on, this is a threat not only to energy supply, but also to food security. As without electricity there will be no basic goods such as bread, dairy and meat products", said Mr. Denys Bashlyk, the Deputy Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine.
"This activity is a part of our larger joint efforts to support Ukrainian farmers in 2023. This year, we will continue to help farmers with critical stuff such as generators, seeds and grain storage facilities", added Mr. Pierre Vauthier, FAO Ukraine Designated Responsible Officer.
