The current season features a record gain in rye supplies from Ukraine. So, the country exported 85.1 KMT of rye in July-January 2018/19 that is already 123% more than in the whole of MY 2017/18 (38.2 KMT) and the largest volume since MY 2002/03, reports UkrAgroConsult.
This season, the most important buyer of Ukrainian rye is the European Union. Ukraine exported 51.2 KMT of the product to EU countries in the first seven months of 2018/19, or 90% more than in the whole of MY 2017/18. At the same time, Poland, the largest European importer of Ukrainian rye, boosted purchases to 30.2 KMT from 19.4 KMT in the whole of MY 2017/18.
Apart from the EU, the range of destinations for Ukrainian rye expanded this season at the expense of shipments to Philippines and Bangladesh. Remarkably, Bangladesh was a major buyer of Ukrainian rye in the 2015/16 and 2016/17 seasons, while its delivery to Philippines was made in MY 2018/19 for the first time ever.
Israel is still a key destination market for rye from Ukraine: it already imported a total 6.3 KMT of Ukrainian rye in July-January 2018/19, or 36% more than in the whole of MY 2017/18.
