Ukrainian Agrarian Confederation forecasts the volumes of general grain production in Ukraine in 2009 at the level of over 47 mln tonnes, including over 10 mln tonnes of maize. Even the rates of grain exports exceeds the previous year export volumes, when grain harvest totaled 53 mln tonnes, declared Sergey Stoyanov, the general director of the organization.
According to the press service of Ukrainian Agrarian Confederation, during 1/3 of the current marketing year, and as of November 1, Ukraine exported 10.6 mln tonnes of grain cargoes, including 9 mln tonnes of grains, 1.1 mln tonnes of oilseeds, and over 500 thsd tonnes of grain by-products.
During the first four months of 2009, the structure of grain exports from Ukraine totaled 4.8 mln tonnes (up 200 thsd tonnes compared to the previous year), 3 mln tonnes of barley (down 600 thsd tonnes), nearly 800 thsd tonnes of maize (up 300 thsd tonnes).
According to the expert, Ukrainian barley export volumes decreased due to the high dependence of the grain exports on activity of buyers from Saudi Arabia, which lowered subsidies for barley in the season.
During July-October of 2009, oilseeds exports decreased compared to the same period of the previous year – to 1.2 mln tonnes as opposed to 1.6 mln tonnes, due to the reduction of rapeseed exports from Ukraine (1 mln tonnes), the growth of sunflower exports (120 thsd tonnes as opposed to 7 thsd tonnes last year) did not compensate such reduction.
Grain by-products exports from Ukraine also increased greatly – to the level of 550 thsd tonnes as opposed to 300 thsd tonnes in the same period of the previous year.
Such activity of exporters and purchasing activity of oil-producing enterprises still remain the main and almost single factors of supporting of the price growth of grains and oilseeds on the domestic market of Ukraine, added S.Stoyanov.
