Corn and sunflower planting has almost completed

Ukrainian farmers had sown 2360 Th ha of early spring cereals and pulses by May 29 (96% of their projected area) against 2317 Th ha by May 29, 2017. The gap in sowing from last year is minimum.

The planted area includes 167 Th ha (96%) of spring wheat against 172 Th ha in 2017 and 1502 Th ha (96%) of spring barley against 1564 Th ha last year. As a reminder, the Ag Ministry has adjusted its barley planting forecast downwards by 34 Th ha, with a consequent increase in the ratio between this crop’s planted and projected areas.

Oat plantings already total 191 Th ha (93%) compared to 198 Th ha a year ago. The area seeded to peas currently equals 418 Th ha (99%) against 383 Th ha at the same time a year ago.

Corn planting has almost been completed with its progress being 3% ahead of last year. 4514 Th ha had been seeded to corn for grain by the reporting date (98% of the plan) against 4395 Th ha by May 29, 2017.

According to the Ag Ministry of Ukraine, the planted area of sunflower was already as large as 5576.3 Th ha on May 29, 2018 that is 100% of the projected 5559.5 Th ha (official data). This crop’s seeding is almost 103% the progress of last year: 5415 Th ha was seeded to sunflower a year ago.

As of May 29, soybean plantings totaled 1670.2 Th ha, i.e. 87% of their forecast area of 1929 Th ha (official data). This crop’s seeding is 91.1% the progress of last year: 1834 Th ha was seeded to soybeans by this date a year ago.
