From the beginning of the current marketing year (MY, July 2009/June 2010), Ukraine exported nearly 16 mln tonnes of grains, declared Ivan Demchak, the Deputy Minister of Agrarian Policy, on February 3.
According to him, the ports of Ukraine prepare nearly 1 mln tonnes of grains for export shipment.
In January, grain exports from Ukraine lowered due to several factors. According to estimations of the Ministry of Agrarian Policy, last month, Ukraine exported nearly 1.7 mln tonnes of grains. I.Demchak also confirmed the previous forecast of grain exports in 2009/10 MY at the level of 20 mln tonnes.
According to the preliminary data of the State committee of statistics of Ukraine, in 2009, Ukraine harvested 46 mln tonnes of grains and leguminous plants in clean weight, down 13.7% compared to 2008.
Previously, the Ministry of Agrarian Policy of Ukraine forecasted the export of grains from Ukraine in 2009/10 MY at the level of nearly 20 mln tonnes as opposed to 25.2 mln tonnes in 2008/09 marketing year.
