The energy system of Ukraine, despite everything, continues to work stably. There are 11.7 billion cubic meters of gas in storage, and 1.2 million tons of coal in warehouses, which makes it possible to successfully overcome the challenges of winter.

Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal said this at a government meeting on January 6.

"The energy system of Ukraine works stably, repairs are ongoing, there are almost no emergency shutdowns now. There are 11.7 billion cubic meters of gas in underground gas storages. There are 1.2 million tons of coal in warehouses. There is money and help from partners to additionally purchase the necessary resources," Shmyhal said.

He emphasized that 2.5 months after the beginning of the heating season, we can say that Ukraine is successfully overcoming the challenges of winter.

At the same time, as the Prime Minister emphasized, Russia continues to attack our energy sector, due to which, since the beginning of the new year, other generation facilities and main networks have been damaged. Shelling of the energy industry in the east and south also continued. Despite this, energy workers manage to keep our energy system unified.

According to Shmyhal, the government, for its part, worked with partners to obtain batches of generators, transformers and other equipment necessary for network repairs and introduced a preferential regime for the import of energy equipment.

"Almost 670,000 generators of various capacities were imported. The government introduced zero customs clearance for small generators, and also made it possible for businesses to get a loan for such generators at 0% for up to 5 years," Shmyhal recalled.

As reported, at the beginning of the heating season, more than 14.5 billion cubic meters of gas were stored in Ukrainian gas storages, and there were 1.5 million tons of coal in warehouses.

During December, foreign governments and non-governmental organizations handed Ukraine about 5,000 generators to meet humanitarian needs. Another 8,000 are expected to arrive in early 2023.
