Ukraine Harvests 44 Mln Tons Of Grain In Year To Oct 29

Ukraine harvested 44 million metric tons of grain in the year to Oct. 29 on 14.8 million hectares, or 95% of the total area to be harvested, with an average yield of three tons a hectare, the Agriculture Ministry said Friday.

The amount of grain harvested to date is 13% less than on the same date last year and the average yield of three tons a hectare is lower than the 3.5 tons a hectare reported on the same date last year.

The Agriculture Ministry forecasts Ukraine’s grain harvest this year at 45 million tons, down from the 53.3 million tons harvested in 2008.
