Yesterday (22/08), with the participation of the Minister of Infrastructure of Ukraine Oleksandr Kubrakov and the Minister of Infrastructure and Regional Development of Moldova Andriy Spinu, the updated railway section Berezine (Ukraine) - Basarabeasca (Moldova) was opened.

The resumption of traffic on the site took place within the framework of the work of the Ministry of Infrastructure of Ukraine to increase capacity on the western borders of Ukraine with the EU states and Moldova.

"The restoration of this route has become vital against the background of constant attacks on the bridge over the Dniester estuary by the Russian occupiers. From now on, we have an alternative – the main railway route for connecting Odessa and the Danube ports – "Reni" and "Izmail" is reliably connected to the railway connection.

We expect that we will be able to achieve the volume of cargo transportation in this area at an average of 10 million tons per year. I am grateful to our partners from Moldova and relevant ministries for their cooperation and work on the result.

Our joint projects are not only about transport, cargo and passengers. Together we are moving towards EU membership, so together we are building a common European infrastructure.

And I should definitely note the excellent work of Ukrainian railway workers who have implemented a large international turnkey project. After all, the efforts of our employees have restored the infrastructure not only on the territory of Ukraine, but also on the territory of Moldova," commented Oleksandr Kubrakov, Minister of Infrastructure of Ukraine.

The section Berezino – Basarabyaska is single-track, and its length is 23 kilometres (on the territory of Ukraine – almost 23 kilometres).

There has been no movement on it since 1999.

It should be noted that on June 24 this year, the Ministry of Infrastructure of Ukraine and the Ministry of Infrastructure and Regional Development of Moldova signed a Memorandum of Understanding on the development of railway communication, which provides for the restoration of railway traffic in this area.
