According to the State Statistics Service of Ukraine, the country’s planted areas of cereals and pulses for the 2018 harvest totaled 14.85 Ml ha, or 1.5% more than in 2017.
At the same time, the official data indicate that the planted area of major oilseeds (sunseed, soybeans and rapeseed) was down 1.3% year-on-year at 8.81 Ml ha.
It is worth noting that, according to UkrAgroConsult, the official planted area of cereals is overestimated, while that of oilseeds, on the contrary, remains underestimated.
According to UkrAgroConsult’s forecast, cereal plantings for the 2018 harvest were as follows: wheat – 6.45 Ml ha, barley – 2.3 Ml ha, corn – 4.6 Ml ha. Oilseed plantings were as follows: sunseed – 6.5 Ml ha, rapeseed – 1.08 Ml ha, soybeans – 1.8 Ml ha.
