The Republic of Moldova currently does not intend to introduce restrictions on the import of grain and oil crops from Ukraine.

The Minister of Agriculture of the Republic of Moldova Vladimir Bolea stated this on national television on Wednesday, the portal Newsmaker.md reports.

"The introduction of import restrictions would not solve anything. This would not lead to an increase in selling prices for Moldovan farmers, nor to a decrease in the cost price. This decision would yield zero results," the Moldovan minister said.

According to him, on the contrary, Ukraine would introduce restrictions on the import of Moldovan products, "and then a lot would be lost."

The minister also noted that the amount of agricultural products imported from Ukraine is insignificant: in total, about 177 tons of wheat and 4 thousand tons of sunflower seeds were imported.

Vladimir Bolea also commented on the possible ban on the transit of grain from Ukraine through Moldova. He noted that the authorities of Chisinau are not considering such a step.

"Transit does not affect us negatively. Thanks to the transit, "Railway of Moldova" was able to rehabilitate, the company paid the salary and even increased it," the government official explained.

However, according to him, the problem arises with road freight transportation, as queues are created at the customs in the direction of Romania.
