The governments of Ukraine and India signed the Agreement on cooperation in the agricultural sector

The Governments of Ukraine and the Republic of India signed an Agreement on cooperation in the fields of agriculture and food industry. The purpose of the Agreement is to expand mutually beneficial cooperation, create favourable conditions for market relations and increase the national food security of the countries.

The document was signed by the Acting Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine, Taras Vysotskyi, and the First Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of India, Vikram Misri.

The agreement was signed with the participation of the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyi and the Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi.

The agreement provides for cooperation in the following areas:

  1. Exchange of information on laws, standards and product samples of mutual interest.
  2. Exchange of information between relevant research institutes in the field of agriculture and food industry regarding scientific and practical activities (fairs, exhibitions, conferences, symposia, etc.).
  3. Conducting joint scientific research on genetics, breeding, biotechnology, plant protection, preservation of soil productivity, mechanization, water resources, etc. and mutual application of scientific results.
  4. Exchange of experience in the field of animal husbandry based on modern scientific research and technologies with the aim of increasing high-yielding dairy breeds of cattle and exchange of genetic resources, etc.
  5. Exchange of experience in the field of crop production, in particular grain and leguminous crops (cultivation technologies, research management, storage, processing and sales).
  6. Exchange of experience in the field of seed production based on modern technologies; exchange of information on the certification of seed material in accordance with the legislation of the Parties.
  7. Cooperation in the field of examination of plant varieties and protection of rights to plant varieties, exchange of seed samples on favourable terms, including on a give-and-take basis.
  8. Studying the efficiency and feasibility of various types of irrigation, including micro-irrigation, which includes drip irrigation.
  9. Conducting scientific research on the effective use of various fertilizers for their further registration.
  10. Cooperation in the field of trade in agricultural and food products.
  11. Facilitating the creation of joint ventures and exchanging information on the development of food markets.
  12. Exchange of information and methodology regarding the effective use of food and packaging technologies.
  13. Cooperation in the field of agricultural research and issues of food safety and their standards.
  14. Cooperation in aquaculture and fish farming, in particular, exchange of experience in the field of fish and invertebrate aquaculture technologies, management of the national fund of fishery water bodies of Ukraine and India and their rational use for aquaculture purposes, etc.

The agreement enters into force from the date of its signing and is valid for 5 years.

The Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine, the State Service of Ukraine on Food Safety and Consumer Protection and the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers' Welfare of the Republic of India are responsible for coordinating the implementation of the Agreement.
