Ukraine exported almost as much flour in July-May 2017/18 as in the whole of the 2016/17 season: 406.5 KMT against 407.6 KMT, respectively. As a reminder, the current season sees the fastest pace of exports since MY 1996/97, reports UkrAgroConsult.
Ukraine exported 27.9 KMT of flour in May 2017/18, or 12% more than in the previous month but 23% less than in May 2017.
The greatest gain was observed in shipments to the United Arab Emirates. The country purchased 42.9 KMT of Ukrainian flour during the mentioned period, or 66% more than in the whole of MY 2016/17.
UkrAgroConsult’s analysts note that China remains the largest end market for Ukrainian flour. Supplies of flour to China rose substantially. Chinese buyers stepped up imports to 121.2 KMT in the first 11 months of this season that is already 49.7% more than in the whole of MY 2016/17.
Ukrainian flour exports to South Korea fell considerably. The country imported just 1.76 KMT in the period under review against 24.7 KMT at the same time last year.
Although slightly behind last year, flour production in Ukraine is sufficient to meet growing export needs. So, Ukraine’s flour output in January-May amounted to 704.4 KMT that is 5% less than in the same period last year (743.7 KMT). The export share in flour production approximates 23%. By contrast, Russia exports just some 2% of national flour output.
