Frozen vegetables: export or import?

During January-March 2019 Ukraine has exported 2.4 thousand MT of frozen vegetables which is 3,7% less than in January-March 2018. At that time, Ukrainian import has increased by 7,9% and reached 2.99 thousand MT.

Let’s describe Ukrainian trade of frozen vegetables during past few years.

In 2018 year Ukraine has exported 8.34 thousand MT of frozen vegetables, which is 1,8% more  than in 2017, but almost 2 times less in comparison with 2015, when exports had amounted to 16.6 thousand MT. From 2016 the main batches have been exporting to Belorussia and Poland. In 2018, the shares of these countries in the export structure were 38,4% and 35,93% respectively.

The main positions in the export structure of frozen vegetables was taken by frozen pea – 22,9% and frozen sweet corn – 19% in 2018.

Import was also increased. In 2018 years Ukraine has imported 6.27 thousand MT of frozen vegetables, which is 53,1% more in comparison with 2017. More than 85% of frozen vegetables are imported from Poland. Permanent trading partner is also Belgium.

In 2018 the main positions in the import structure of the frozen vegetables was taken by vegetable blend – 30,5%, frozen haricot – 26,6% and spinach, New Zealand spinach and loboda – 16,2%
