Russian Sea Ports Jan-Feb Throughput Up 7.9% To 77.4 Mln Tons

Russia’s sea ports handled 77.4 million metric tons of cargo in January-February, an increase of 7.9% compared with January-February 2009, according to figures released Monday by the national association of sea ports.

Total throughput of liquid cargo increased during the period by 5.6% to 48.6 million tons, while dry cargo throughput increased 12.1% to 28.8 million tons.

Ports in Russia’s North-West handled in January-February 32.4 million tons, 1.6% less than a year ago. Liquid cargo handling fell 4.9% to 21.3 million tons and dry cargo handling increased 5.2% to 11.1 million tons.

Ports in Russia’s Southern Black Sea region increased throughput by 2.4% to 28.1 million tons, with liquid cargo handling staying the same at 19.1 million tons and dry cargo handling increasing 9.4% to 9 million tons.

Ports in Russia’s Far East increased throughput in January-February by 49.3% to 16.9 million tons, with dry cargo handling increasing 25.8% to 8.7 million tons and liquid cargo handling increasing 90% to 8.2 million tons.
