15.04.2010

Ukraine planted spring grains on 2.6 million hectares, or 62% of the planned total planting area, by April 12 compared with 4.38 million hectares, or 96% of the total planted area by April 12, 2009, the agriculture ministry reported Wednesday.

Spring wheat to date was planted on 165,000 hectares, or 55% of the planned total area. Spring barley was planted on 2.1 million hectares or 64% of the planned total area, and spring oats were planted on 157,500 hectares or 41% of the planned total area. Pulses were planted on 220,600 hectares or 77% of the planned total area.

The agriculture ministry also said beet was planted to date on 130,300 hectares or 31% of the planned total area, sunflower was planted on 72,700 hectares, or 2% of the planned total area, compared with 184,000 hectares on April 12, 2009.
