Ukraine Harvests 42.85Mln Tons Grain In Year To Oct 20

Ukraine harvested 42.85 million metric tons of grain in the year to Oct. 20 on 14.5 million hectares, or 94% of the total area to be harvested, with an average yield of 2.95 tons a hectare, the Agriculture Ministry said Wednesday.

The ministry said the corn harvest to date was 5.15 million tons on 1.11 million hectares, or 53% of the total area to be harvested, with an average yield of 4.62 tons a hectare. The sunflower harvest to date was 5.83 million tons with an average yield of 1.54 tons a hectare.

The Agriculture Ministry forecasts Ukraine’s grain harvest this year at 45 million tons, down from the 53.3 million tons harvested in 2008.
