Ukraine harvested 42.3 million metric tons of grain in the year to Oct. 16 on 14.4 million hectares, or 92% of the total area to be harvested, with an average yield of 2.94 tons a hectare, the Agriculture Ministry said Monday.
The ministry said the corn harvest to date was 4.617 million tons on 1 million hectares, or 47% of the total area to be harvested, with an average yield of 4.62 tons a hectare. The sunflower harvest to date was 5.7 million tons with an average yield of 1.54 tons a hectare.
The Agriculture Ministry forecasts Ukraine’s grain harvest this year at 45 million
tons, down from the 53.3 million tons harvested in 2008.
